Earth Day Turns 50 This Yr


Earth Day is being celebrated for the 50th time this year under the motto “Measures against climate change”. We plan to celebrate by doing what we do every day – to give everyone an opportunity to use clean, renewable energy – but let’s also look back to examine what happened to Earth Day began and how it evolved over the first 50 years.

Ironically, humanity needed the earth in order to gain a fuller appreciation for it. Of the many contributions NASA’s Apollo program has made to our society, our species, and our understanding of the natural sciences, one photo taken by astronaut Bill Anders on Christmas Eve 1968 is possibly the most important and far-reaching.
