Edmonds Waterfront Heart replace: Promenade is poured, solar panel donations coming in

Last week I introduced you to J. Ward Phillips and his generous gift for the Waterfront Center’s solar initiative. You may recall that Ward wrote a check for $ 50,000 to pay the $ 300,000 for the 305-panel solar panel on the roof of the new center. Ward then issued a challenge game. He would raise the next $ 50,000 in donations for the solar panels, dollar for dollar.

Well, it works – since the article was published, we’ve received checks totaling $ 27,000 from 24 donors. I received calls from two other donors yesterday. Thank you Ward and thank you Edmonds!

It was a great week on the construction site too. The promenade was poured – see video: animoto.com/play/GrnCgXsoJu61PdiWlRbHsw

Inside, the operable walls for the banquet hall and the multi-purpose rooms on the second level were hung, carpets were laid in the communal lounge and casework for the coffee kiosk was installed.

We are currently on schedule to receive our occupancy certificate on December 7th. We will then start moving furniture and appliances. Due to COVID-19, we will be hosting a virtual tape cutting later in December. We are grateful to the countless donors, volunteers and supporters who have pushed this extraordinary project forward. Stay tuned.
