Sunnova’s solar properties qualify for the ISO New England capability market
Sunnova Energy International Inc. has qualified for ISO New England Forward Capacity Auction 15 (FCA15), which means its residential solar portfolio can participate in the New England grid capacity market. Sunnova’s portfolio of decentralized solar energy systems for private households in New England is expected to enter the capacity market as early as 2021. Full portfolio participation is expected for the FCA15 commitment year from June 2024.
This relates to the FERC order. 2222. Here’s more information on it if you need it.
“The recent FERC Regulation No. 2222, which seeks to extend the participation of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) to all electricity markets, is in direct line with our mission to promote energy independence, especially at a time of uncertainty about reliability of power grids continues to grow, ”said Michael Grasso, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer of Sunnova. “Our Solar + Storage service offerings give our customers more control, can protect them from power outages, and can now also help meet the total energy needs of New England payers.”
Like every major player in the field of solar + storage for private households, Sunnova is striving to expand its functions for aggregation and management network services. Sunnova is working with demand-side energy management company CPower Energy Management to add and manage its residential solar portfolio in ISO-NE’s On Peak Hours Resources (OPHR) passive demand-response program. CPower’s expertise in optimizing resource sharing behind the meter in the New England capacity market will ensure Sunnova maximizes its revenue potential and ROI.
“CPower is honored that Sunnova has chosen to join us in this landmark program,” said John Horton, President and CEO of CPower. “CPower is the largest manager of demand-side solar in the New England capacity market with unmatched knowledge of the ISO New England market and has had unmatched success as a DER aggregator. We look forward to working with Sunnova and helping them advance their goals in this area. “
