Genie Insights launches Customised Solar Panels for Business Autos
Fleet technology supplier Genie Insights has developed a range of solar products specifically designed for use in commercial vehicles. The panels charge batteries that power devices such as refrigerators, tail lifts and a range of electrical accessories. County Antrim has taken advantage of the new solar panel technology that makes it easier to customize the panels for use in virtually any commercial vehicle or trailer configuration.
Genie Insights solar products, made in partnership with a UK solar module manufacturer, use the latest CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) technology instead of traditional glass-based modules. The panels are not only light and flexible, but also extremely powerful and highly efficient. They even generate energy in poor lighting conditions. The plate technology is particularly robust because it flexes with the vehicle body and does not contain any glass. There is no risk of breaks or cracks. Due to the unique construction, the panels continue to work even if they are damaged or partially covered.
Genie Insights offers bespoke solar modules as well as a range of standardized products for easy installation in common vehicle and trailer configurations. Genie Insights offers a comprehensive design, installation and backup service with a 5-year performance guarantee and can also configure panels for any type of moving object that depends on battery power.
“With the latest CIGS technology, panels can be lighter, slimmer and more efficient than traditional solar solutions,” says Billy Dougan of Genie Insights. “This technology clearly has great advantages, but in early trials we found that a one-size-fits-all solution is of limited appeal because the vehicle and trailer configurations are very different. We have therefore worked for 18 months with our manufacturing partner on a flexible production process in order to be able to deliver customer-specific products to both trailer manufacturers and operators. “
It has been shown that solar modules in commercial vehicles save fuel. However, Genie Insights believes that the greatest benefits come from improvements in battery performance and reliability. The panels keep the batteries on at least a trickle charge to avoid power outages and minimize the risk of costly and inconvenient outages. In some applications, it can even generate enough power to be the main power source. Battery health is also maintained and lifespan is maximized.
“We have now sold more than 1,000 panels in the UK and Irish commercial vehicle markets. The data shows that our product performs well in the winter months even in the most northerly climates. Even in low light, our panels keep the refrigerator batteries charged enough to avoid battery-related failures, ”said Matt Reeve of Genie Insights.
