The verdict against Biju Radhakrishnan, Defendant number one, was put on hold while he was under quarantine.

The accused solar fraud, Saritha S Nair, has been sentenced to six years imprisonment by a court in Kozhikode in a fraud case related to the solar panel fraud that rocked Kerala during the earlier Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) rule.

Multi-crore fraud includes numerous similar fraud cases. In the present case, in which she is now being convicted, Saritha was the second defendant. According to a complaint from Kozhikode-born Abdul Majeed to the police in 2012, the two defendants – Saritha and her partner Biju Radhakrishnan – had stolen 42.70 lakh for franchising in addition to installing solar panels in his office and home made available to their company. However, the complainant stated that the contract had not been carried out and the money had not been refunded.

First Class III Judge K Nimmi acquitted the third defendant, B Manimon, while the sentence against Biju Radhakrishnan, the first defendant in this case, was later suspended because he was quarantined.

The court sentenced him to four different crimes, including fraud. Four crimes were fined Rs 10,000 for a total of Rs 40,000.

On the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the court, Saritha was arrested by an investigator from her home in Thiruvananthapuram last week and was held in custody after being transferred to Kozhikode. The warrant for her arrest was issued for not appearing in court.

The court was due to deliver the verdict in February, but since the defendant did not show up, it had to be postponed.

Saritha S Nair and her accomplice Biju Radhakrishnan had cheated on millions of people who promised to install solar panels and offer franchises and jobs in their company, Team Solar Renewable Energy Solutions Company.

The solar fraud has been a big jolt to the UDF government led by Oommen Chandy as many congressional leaders, including former CM Chandy, have been embroiled in various controversies regarding the fraud, including sexual assault allegations.
