Megger now offers a solar clamp meter that can measure up to 2,000 V DC and 1,500 V AC (using PVHV cables) during the installation, maintenance, monitoring and testing of photovoltaic systems and standard electrical devices for AC or DC. The DCM1500S can also measure AC and DC currents up to 1,500 A and offers a true RMS value for the AC range for greater measurement accuracy.

This clamp meter is designed for electrical systems and equipment, including solar / photovoltaic systems, where current, volts, resistance, and frequency need to be measured. It’s also great for troubleshooting.

The DCM1500S is supplied with 4 mm cables as standard, as is the new PVHV1 (4 mm) and PVHV2 with MC4PV connectors for HV cable sets. These cables allow the technician to connect directly to the solar array connectors and junction box where all panels are spliced, allowing for faster and more convenient termination and testing.

The device has a large LED display with clear backlighting and a light in the clamping jaw that turns on automatically when working in poorly lit areas. Below the jaw there is a tactile barrier that ensures a safe working distance for the operator’s hand when the current is measured on non-insulated conductors.

This solar clamp measuring device has a high frequency blocking filter, inrush current measurement, internal data acquisition, a non-contact voltage search mode and manual DC amp zero setting. The DCM1500S not only measures voltage and current, but also resistance, diode, capacitance, temperature and frequency.

The DCM1500S has intelligent data hold that extends the standard hold function of the device by giving the operator an acoustic warning if the hold value increases by 50 counts or more. A min / max function on the device automatically saves the lowest and highest measured values.
