SunPower releases new monitoring app for solar + storage prospects
SunPower announced the new mySunPower app, the company’s new experience for home owners that allows them to review and manage their power generation, consumption and battery storage settings from a mobile device. The new mySunPower monitoring app will be available to SunPower Equinox customers for download on February 16 from the Apple App Store and Google Play and will be available to all 285,000 SunPower monitoring customers from spring 2021.
The mySunPower app is designed to integrate seamlessly with SunPower’s existing homeowner platform. It makes it possible to optimize energy consumption, save money and become less dependent on traditional energy providers in the face of power outages, natural disasters and the effects of climate change.
SunPower has redesigned the homeowner surveillance experience. The start functions include:
- Storage system control: mySunPower users can control their battery settings from the palm of their hand. Homeowners can set their batteries to minimize energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint or maintain maximum load capacity in the event of unforeseen power outages.
- Live Power Flow: With live data, Equinox customers with production meters can track the immediate impact of their energy decisions, including the impact of changing weather conditions, adjustments to battery settings, or even the use of small devices like a microwave, in real time.
- In-App Alerts: New notification features alert homeowners to important changes to their system status, connectivity and weather conditions. Additional app features expected to be released during the course of 2021 include alerts for homeowners to prepare for rolling power outages and other incidents.
According to Wood Mackenzie and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), more than 25% of on-site solar systems will be paired with storage by 2025. The new mySunPower app will shorten the learning curve for customers using solar and storage through a completely redesigned user interface, actionable insights based on real-time data and live in-app updates on system status and connectivity. This customer-centric innovation will help facilitate the adoption of solar and storage systems like SunPower’s SunVault storage and transform North America’s distributed power grid.
“The introduction of the new mySunPower app is an important step forward for solar and storage customers,” said Jake Wachman, vice president of software products and development. “By combining system monitoring and control into a single, easy-to-use mobile application, SunPower is transforming the way homeowners interact with renewable energy technology. The new mySunPower app firmly establishes solar and storage systems in the growing smart home ecosystem. “
The app can be seamlessly integrated into the mySunPower web portal and offers consumers an experience from purchase to installation to monitoring.
