Months Earlier than Polls, LDF Says Will Switch Instances To CBI

A number of congressional leaders are charged with solar fraud in Kerala.

Ahead of the elections in Kerala, due later this year, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has recommended a CBI investigation into cases against former Prime Minister Oommen Chandy and five others charged with sexual abuse related to the notorious “solar fraud” by the state.

The opposition congress called the move “politically motivated” and said that since the government could not find anything against the party leaders in the past five years, it made the decision with the elections approaching. Mr. Chandy said he was ready to face any probe.

“The left has been in power in Kerala for five years and has not been able to prove any charges against us. Now they are trying to ally with the powers that be at the center. We are not against a probe. You may remember how during After one By-election, based on the report by the Solar Commission, the state government said it would take action. Where are these measures? “He said.

“Why has the state government not yet taken action, despite a case registered under the ‘Non-Degradable’ section due to a complaint in 2018? And now they are passing it on to CBI? The Prime Minister of Kerala has to react to watch everything “added Mr. Chandy.

Union Minister V Muraleedharan also attacked the government, saying the decision to investigate the Central Bureau of Investigation into the upcoming elections had been made.

In protest against the change of government, the staff of the Youth Congress marched to the secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram and burned a portrait of Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

CPI-M State Secretary A Vijayaraghavan, however, denied the charge of political revenge and told reporters that it was only a natural course of action “to ensure justice for the complainant”.

The cases against the six, including Mr Chandy, have been recorded in recent years and are being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department based on a complaint made by the woman charged with multi-crore solar panel fraud during the previous United Democratic Front (UDF) Government that she was sexually exploited by them in 2012.

In addition to Mr Chandy, who was recently named chairman of a 10-member electoral management committee for the party for the state elections expected in April-May, there are Congressmen KC Venugopal, Hibi Eden and Adoor Prakash, and MLA AP Anil Kumar and BJP leader AP Abdulla Kutty the defendants in the six cases.

The case against Abdulla Kutty was registered in 2014 when he was a congressional MLA from Kannur. He later came to BJP.

The complainant, who had alleged rape against the Congress leaders, had recently written to Prime Minister Pinarayi Vijayan asking for a CBI investigation after the police investigation had stalled.

The woman and the other defendant of the fraud allegedly defrauded several millions of rupee investors by offering to set up solar panels for them.

In a letter to the Police Commissioner on July 19, 2013, the woman brought charges of sexual misconduct and corruption against several leaders of Congress and the UDF, including Mr Chandy, some of his ministers and two former union ministers.
